Certified Preowned Chevy Volt and a 1996 Miata with Vmaxx coilovers, two sets of tires, hardtop, blue paint, widebody, cruise control, power mirrors, LSD, and a custom saddle brown leather interior.
Electric daily driver with on-demand instant torque, great fuel economy, reasonably comfy, and a warranty. Then have a daily-drivable fun car modded out the ass and quick as all hell with a set of sticky autocross tires.

Wow you just went all electric eh?
I think I’d take a new MKX and a rally built Fox body.

All electric? A hybrid and a turbo miata is all electric now? :P

oh i thought you were trying to convert a miata to electric because you started talking about electric again after the miata pic.
I’ve re-read and now realize that’s a recap.

Nor am I apparently hahaha
It’s a good thing my job doesn’t require heavy machinery.

Using heavy machinery is especially fun on a Friday afternoon after a few beers for lunch. At least, they were at my old job. Hmm, why don’t I still work there anyway?

Is that why it drives a million times nicer than any Prius or Kia hybrid I’ve ever used? I hate the hybrid system in those, with the gas engine kicking on and off while I drive all the time, sometimes in the middle of accelerating. When putting around a car lot it’s SUPER annoying for the engine to pop on for two seconds, then shut off again. I adore the way the Volt handles it. All electric until you either tell it to turn on the gas motor or you run low on electricity. If you have a fully charged battery you have a completely silent electric car. Friggin’ great. I sorely want to autocross a Volt.

The volt’s driveline is always all electric. The motor is just a generator

Good point. Instead of “all electric” perhaps I should have said “silent”

I drove a Prius for a week just to see what it was like before I started seriously shopping for the Volt. The drive is completely superior to the prius - all electric first, with the gas generator coming on only after the batter runs out. Even when the engine is running, it’s still primarily electric drive. I love the way it drives.
The handling is amazing as well. Considering how much weight the battery adds, it’s really well done. It rides like a much bigger car on the highway, due to the added weight. In the turns it still holds very flat, very little body roll. I put MPSS tires on mine and it’s very, very fun in the cloverleaf ramps... I go much faster than I should be able to around those ;)
The only other time the engine will come on is if it’s too damn cold out so it will cycle the ICE on and off to supplement the electric heat. Don’t worry though, when it IS running it is also charging the battery, so no major waste there!

awesome, awesome GIF. That’s pretty much what could have happened! Except that where I worked wasn’t warehousey like that, it was a machine shop floor and the forklifts were used to move equipment that weighed many tons. You could tip the smaller forklifts over forward if you slowed down too fast ;)

Then there’s Volvo’s system. Oh, maybe the engine should run the wheels. Nope, never mind, the electric motors do just fine, let’s charge the battery instead. Oh, shit, this guy just selected sport, gotta fire up the twincharged four again! Whelp, we’re at a stop, we can pull away with just electrons. Wait, it’s 5 degrees out and it turns out we want to heat up the car anyways so let’s burn gas again. You know, while we’re at it, why not use both so we can have the front wheels powered by gas and the rear by electricity? Now there’s the ticket!
I can’t wait for all this shit to break in a decade. A 2.0 with 300+ hp was bad enough, now this nonsense about the gas and electric powerplants both being able to drive the wheels apart or simultaneously or in generator formation is certainly going to break soon. Good thing T8's aren’t too popular. At least Volvo knows how to turbocharge things properly so the T5 and T6 ones are probably decent, if somewhat lacking the smoothness and lovely soundtrack that the old whiteblocks had.
Your boy, BJR

I’m surprised at how complicated they can make these, when it should be so simple. GM really nailed it with this setup. Too bad they aren’t using it more.

Agreed. The Volt makes so much sense, more than any other hybrid/EV out there today. You get both a medium-range EV and the ability to go anywhere with gas. That’s like two cars in one!

Get you a girl who can do both (except the fuel economy)
